Violence

There is inspiration to be taken from people that go about their pursuit with a level of ‘violence’. There are numerous examples across sport and life as a whole. People like Jude Bellingham, Jalen Brunson and Truett Hanes, to name a few, have a certain level of aggression with which they attack their chosen pursuit. Many view it as cocky or arrogant. But I think this is where flow and performance lie. Their actions aren’t about anyone else or external factors. They take the task by the scruff of the neck and put themselves on the line every single time they go out there.

I love competitors. No matter the arena. You can sense when this comes from deep within them. Not to be quenched by anything but the pursuit.

Preseason is beginning for many of us. A big note to self that I am taking into this year is to stand up to be counted every time I step on the pitch. There are things that are out of our control. Take the focus away from these things. Many of the outcomes that we wish for (although highly influenced by our inputs/actions) are out of our control. But how I show up every time I step across the white line is in my control. I can compete. I can be aggressive and try to make stuff happen. Attack the game and impose myself on it. Of course, there will be good and bad performances. This is part in parcel of being an athlete. But intention is always within our control.
